I can't begin to tell you how thankful I am for the friends I have in my life!!!
Our good friends Paul and Megan https://www.instagram.com/spiritbodybliss/ booked the squaw mountain fire lookout near Idaho springs, colorado MONTHS WAY IN ADVANCE!!!! We don't have that opportunity right now so like I said, we got lucky with amazing friends!!!
Our stay was only for one night and the hike was relatively short to get up there! when we arrived we were told about the car that was stuck up the road and opted to leave our car at the bottom of the hill. Hiking in the snow along the road is pretty easy so the choice wasn't hard.
The wind didn't kick in until we neared the top but it was just so beautiful you could care less!
We spent the evening in awe as we just watched the weather move all around us. The lookout was incredible with 360 views above 11k feet!!!! The clouds were so mesmorizing we had to spend 30 minutes outside close to midnight just to stand in awe of the scene unfolding in front of us. It was a rather magical one I tell you. I've waited years to see the clouds, mountains, and stars like this. and to get the opportunity to share it with my closest friends and fiancé...... PRICELESS <3
The next morning it was even more windy. sadly wind is one of the only things that kills my soul. It just makes outdoor activities pretty challenging when its above 40mph steady..... well we woke up to easy 60-80mph gusts and a constant 50-60mph. It was insane and we were very thankful for our indoor shelter. The upstairs with 2 heaters stayed about 40 degrees the entire time due to the entire thing being all windows, so in the morning I went downstairs to the warmer part because I'm just forever freezing! It was a toasty 72 so it was easy to thaw out! We all watched the sunrise together and it was full of pastels, clouds, and oh so much wind!!! sadly because the wind was so rowdy we just ended up all packing up and heading home that morning.
The hike down in the trees is never as bad! so thankful for trees they stop SO MUCH WIND!!!! We all got down and said our goodbyes for now, another fun adventure with this group I'm extremely thankful for!!! <3
I live for these moments and if it wasn't for friends that plan ahead, I wouldn't have this opportunity currently!!
